"Lands claimed in the Knowne World from Penticton to Kelowna being the shire of Danescombe, Principality of Tir Righ, Kingdom of An Tir"
What is the SCA?
SCA members study the culture and technology of their period, but they don't stop with historical research. They practice what they have learned - they build the tools, sing the songs, make and wear the clothing, cook and eat the food that was popular in former times. They build replica armor and weapons, and learn how to use them. Archery, brewing, calligraphy, dance. . . the whole range of human activities are open to anyone who finds them intriguing. In addition to the physical trappings of their historical recreation, SCA members also seek to embody the ideals of the literature of the period: chivalry, courtesy, honor, and hospitality.

We recreate the Middle Ages “as they should have been” members say, referring to their attempts to evoke the strong and hopeful aspects of the culture without reliving its very real problems.

The SCA offers two types of demonstrations...
Educational Demos
Because the SCA is an educational society first, we have a self appointed mission to provide demonstrations free of charge to schools, youth groups, Scouting and Guiding, or other non-profit educational based groups. We provide these demos whenever possible, but scheduling depends on the ability of our members to book time off work, or free themselves from other obligations.

From hands-on displays of daily life in the Middle Ages to the Social and Political revolutions of the Renaissance, we can tailor educational demos to suit classroom curriculum from K-12 or even college level studies.

Entertainment Demos
The SCA also provides demonstrations for purely entertainment value to Towns, Fairs, Festivals, Malls, or private businesses. For a negotiated fee, your local SCA group can provide demonstrations to suit any need you may have.

We have performed demos for most of the large malls in the Okanagan valley, for town sponsored Festivals in Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, and Kelowna, plus a number of private businesses wishing a unique attention getter.

From simply adding a flavour of the Middle Ages all the way to providing a period encampment and Tournament, we can offer a unique flair to any event.

The SCA provides two styles of armed combat; Armoured and Rapier.

Armoured combat is what most people think of when the term Middle Ages is mentioned. With plate, chainmail, or leather armour and steel helmets, this Martial Art is the most exciting to watch. It is loud, and a crowd pleaser.

The best way to describe Rapier combat is to compare it with the "Three Musketeers" style of fighting. Our Rapier fighters typically use real swords and wear a minimum of protective gear. We provide demonstrations of the Renaissance "Arte of Defence" a valuable thing if one is ever challenged to a duel of honour!
