Danescombe Academy

May 3 & 4, 2008 - 9111 Peach Orchard Rd, Summerland
The Shire of Danescombe is pleased to invite one and all to join Their Highnesses at the first session of the University of Tir Righ!
This set of classes will take place on May 3rd and 4th in Summerland, BC. Please note that the date on the form is an error.
Registration will be accepted up to and including May 1st, 2008. Registration is not complete until payment is received. Download the registration form here. The full schedule and course outlines can be found here.
The site will open at 8am for instructors to set up and students to come in and get settled. There will be coffee, tea, and some light snacks available for a donation in the morning. Classes will begin on time. There will be a lunch break between 1pm and 2pm. There will be day food available for purchase. At 6pm classes finish and there will be about an hour dinner break for people to relax and have some dinner.
There will be a tavern starting at 7pm. The site is very discreetly damp so please bring period containers for any beverages you would like to drink. There will be dancing, games, and general revelry to relax from the day.
Sunday morning the site will open again at 8am for instructors and there will be coffee, tea and some light snacks once again.
The registration fee that you pay to take the classes does go towards the costs of running a University Session and to subsidizing the travel for instructors. Directions: Make your best way to Summerland, BC. From the North turn right or from the South turn left on Rosedale Rd (the intersection where the 7-11 Store is). Follow Rosedale as it curves to the left and continue for a few blocks. On your left will be Peach Orchard Rd. The site is 9111 Peach Orchard Rd.

Homecoming is a weekend camping event that occurs in August of each year. At Homecoming, Danescombe decides its Armoured and Bardic Defenders.

Come celebrate the harvest with Danescombe. Each year for one night, Danescombe becomes a Republic and is governed by the Doge. Reigning Doges hardly ever survive the last remove of the annual Machiavelli feast and it is up to the populous to select a successor by the end of the night's festivities. In honour of Niccolo Machiavelli, chivalry, honour, trust, and loyalty are abandoned. Instead Danescombe's Court becomes a hotbed of intrigue, treachery, and assassination! The only rule is: there are no rules!

Tournament of Roses
(winter)
February 23, 2008 — Peachland Community Center The Shire of Danescombe invites you to come out and fight for the inspiration of your consort. There will be a armoured combat tournament and a rapier tournament both to honor the inspiration of the combatant. There will also be an Arts and Sciences competition with the theme of a Rose in any Medium. In the evening the shire invites you to stay and enjoy a potluck feast.

There will be day food available including a teriyaki stir fry, baking, coffee, tea, hot chocolate.
There is a full kitchen so all types of pot luck is welcome. There are ovens available for cooking and warming and lots of refigeration space.
The site is VERY discretly damp.

Directions to Site:
From the North: take Hwy 97 S. from Kelowna through Westbank, past the
Coquihalla Connector interchange to Peachland. *
From the South or West via Hwy 3 (Hope-Princeton/Crowsnest): Take Hwy
97 N. through Penticton and Summerland to Peachland.*
From the West via the Coquihalla: Take the turn-off near Merritt for
Kelowna/Princeton/the Okanagan/tourist info. Head east, past the
turn-off for Princeton, about 1 hour. Take the downhill, right hand exit
for Peachland/Summerland/Penticton/Hwy 97 S. Peachland is the first
community you drive through.*
Travellers from the East arrive in the Okanagan either north of Kelowna,
or south of Penticton in Osoyoos.
* There is one stop light in Peachland, on the south end. From the north
it is marked by flashing lights at a blind corner, from the south it is
at the end of a flat stretch along the lake, slowing to 70 from 90. Turn
towards the lake (east: west is definitely uphill) onto Princeton Ave, which
becomes Beach Ave, and proceed through downtown Peachland. All the side streets
are on your left, starting with First St. Turn on 6th St, and the Community Center
is the first entrance on your right.
