The Charter of the Shire of Danescombe
in the Principality of Tir Righ, Kingdom of An Tir, S.C.A., Inc.

We the Citizens of the Shire of Danescombe, in order to
promote harmony, tranquility and the general welfare of
the people, do ordain these articles to be the recognized
policies and customs of our Shire. This charter shall define,
but not limit, the rights of all gentles who live within our
Shire's borders. This charter shall be composed of three articles:
General Regulations, Selection of Officers, and Amending the Shire Chart
er.

Article I. General Regulations

1.0 Policies & By-Laws
These regulations are in addition to SCA Corprate Policy ("Corpora") and the laws of the Kingdom of An Tir and Principality of Tir Righ.


1.1 Definition of Membership
Membership shall be defined as according to the definition set down in Copora.


1.2 Business Meetings
The Shire, with public notice, will hold its regular business meetings once a month.

A.
The time and location of each regular business meeting shall be published in the Shire's official newsletter prior to the meeting.

B. A quorum is required to officially hold all business meetings.

i. A quorum shall be defined as the Seneschal or Deputy Seneschal and two Officers of the Shire.


1.3 Special Business Meetings
Special business meetings may be called by the Seneschal at anytime.

A. Notification of the time and location of a special business meeting shall be conveyed via post, email, or by announcement at a regular meeting by the Seneschal.

B. A quorum is required to officially hold all special business meetings.


1.4 Events & Autocrats
The sponsoring of events and selection of Autocrats shall occur by the following procedure:

A. At a regular business meeting, any member may propose that the Shire sponsor an event.

B. The proposal shall include sufficient information for the Shire to make an informed decision.

C. Once approved, the Autocrat shall meet with the Financial Committee.

D. The Autocrat shall provide monthly status reports, oral or written, to the Shire.

E. The Autocrat shall submit a written event report to the Financial Committee that includes a detailed financial statement within 15 days of the event.


1.5 Property & Inventory
The care for the property and inventory of the Shire shall be as follows:

A. All Shire property/inventory shall be properly marked as property of the Shire of Danescombe.

B.
The appropriate officers shall be responsible for maintaining and storage of their corresponding Shire property (i.e., Master of Stables is responsible for Iron Key, Gold Key Chatelaine is responsible for loaner garb).


Article II. Selection of Officers

2.0 Required Officers
The officers of the Shire shall be, but not limited to, those defined as required by Copora, Kingdom, and Principality Law


2.1 Term Limits of Officers
The term of office of each office shall be a period of no more than two years.

A. Any member is limited to two consecutive terms in an office.

i. The above does not restrict a member from holding another office immediately after the end of his/her second term of another office.

ii. The above does not restrict a member from returning to an office (s)he has held for the maximum term limit after a period of one term.


2.1 End of Term Responsibilities
Officers nearing the end of their term must announce at a regular business meeting their intention to continue or retire three months before their warrant comes up for renewal.

A. Candidates for a Shire office will submit letters of intent and qualifications to the appropriate Officer, to the Seneschal, and to the Chronicler for publication.


Article III. Amending the Shire Charter

3.0 Limitation of Amendments
An amendment to the Charter may add, delete, or modify any rule so long as Article I, section 1.0 is not contradicted by the amendment.


3.1 Submission of an Amendment
An amendment to the Charter must be submitted in writing to the Seneschal and the Chronicler during a regular business meeting.


3.2 Fair Notice of Amendment
The proposed amendment will be published in the newsletter at least 21 days prior to discussion at a business meeting.
